Medicare
Medicare is a separate thing, but some of the settings can be set from the SSA website.
Is this administered by Soc Sec or Medicare? Appears to be Soc Sec.
Medicare is sometimes a separate thing, but joined at the hip to SSA.
- There is a separate medicare number. (Mine is 1FE3-CM8-RV90)
- I have two Medicare cards, to be carried in my wallet and shown to doctors.
- But there is no online account.
- No contact info.
- No phone number.
- Some info about my account is published on the mySocialSecurity account.
Medicare: enrolled
Part A Hospital Insurance premium $0
Part B Medical Insurance premium $185
Part C see Medicare for enrollment status
Part D see Medicare for enrollment status
Unenroll from Part B
Why?
- It’s a waste of money, now $185 per month, because the coverage only applies to persons while inside the USA.
- The price for Part B is calculated based on the income from two years previous. For the next four years I’ll be making Roth conversions, which are categorized as income, and that will increase future Part B price significantly.
How?
- Form CMS 1763, Request for Termination of Premium Part A, Part B, or …
- “To find Medicare number for form CMS-1763, sign in to your Social Security account and view your benefit verification letter.”
- “mail to local soc sec office” Where is my local soc sec office? (Topeka, Manilla)
- Grok says:
- call the main SSA phone number
- do a phone interview
- have cards ready to return
- it can take 1-3 months or longer to process
- if form is processed in April, coverage ends 31 May
Journal
- 18 May 2025 Filled and signed CMS-1763 online PDF.
- 18 May 2025 emailed CMS-1763 to FBU_Manilla, received acknowledgement email from ssa.gov with one all-caps word in the message body: AUTO. Looks like a software error.
- 22 May 2025 19:29 called SSA 1-800-772-1213, requested callback, wait time 30m, spoke to Reginald re CMS-1763. He told me to fax the form to Manila. Allow 60 to 90 days. To followup call Manila. Or call SSA main number again and they can see whether it has been scanned in.
- Used ZeroFax.com to fax the form to 632-8708-9723.
terminate Part B coverage
18 May, emailed CMS-1763 to manilla
22 May, called SSA main number, Reginald says fax to Manila
22 May, faxed to Manila, failed, phone turned off
grok says: do a phone interview, have cards ready to return
call main number to see if CMS-1763 has been scanned into the system (by Manila)
fax to Manila during daytime, call Manila, find out when fax is turned on
do we want to fax after email, is it a problem if both are processed?
step 1. Manila scans the form into the database.
step 2. Somebody processes the form.
step 3. The new price of zero takes effect. Benefits terminate as of the last day of the month after the month in which the form is processed. When does it show online at SSA? When does it show up in the deposit amount?
